Desktone Executive Named Distinguished 2009 Henry Crown Fellow

Paul Gaffney Honored for Exemplary Leadership in Technology Industry

March 31, 2009 – Chelmsford, MA – Desktone, Inc., provider of the first platform that enables hosted virtual desktops as an outsourced subscription service, announced that Paul Gaffney, the company's COO, was named a 2009 Henry Crown Fellow at the Aspen Institute. Gaffney, who was one of 20 executives chosen from nearly 250 notable nominees, was selected for his exemplary leadership throughout his career and his success in the virtualization and internet technology industries.

"I'm honored to be a member of the 2009 class of Henry Crown Fellows," said Gaffney. "I look forward to guidance from the Aspen Institute and to sharing a journey of leadership discovery with other members of my class."

"We are delighted with this year's class of Henry Crown Fellows," said Peter Reiling, executive director of the Henry Crown Fellowship Program. "For society, they represent a potent force of talent, ready to focus their energies on some of the greatest challenges of our times. For them, they are embarking on a personal journey — a journey 'from success to significance' — that will change their lives forever."

Gaffney joined Desktone soon after the company's inception in 2006 to direct the development and support of its innovative desktops as a service (DaaS®) solution. He previously served as executive vice president at Staples, playing key roles as head of supply chain and CIO. Prior to that, he was senior vice president at Charles Schwab & Co. where he led the re-design of the infrastructure for Schwab.com and built Schwab's active trader technology. He also pioneered Office Depot's Internet business, turning his initial idea of integrated multi-channel Internet commerce into a platform for a multi-billion-dollar eCommerce giant. In 1999, Gaffney launched a web-development company, Website Pros, to provide small businesses the web development services previously available only to large companies. In 2007, CIO Magazine named him to its "Hall of Fame" in recognition of his contribution to the IT industry. Gaffney received an A.B. from Harvard College in Computer Science.

The Henry Crown Fellowship is designed to engage the next generation of leaders in the challenge of community-spirited leadership. It brings together entrepreneurial executives and professionals under age 45 who have already achieved considerable success in their chosen fields and are at a point of inflection in their lives and careers. The Fellowship is the flagship program within the Aspen Global Leadership Network (AGLN), now comprising over 900 Fellows from 43 countries, all of whom are committed to applying their entrepreneurial talents to address the foremost challenges of their organizations, communities, and countries.

The Aspen Institute is an international non-profit organization founded in 1950. Its mission is to foster values-based leadership, encouraging individuals to reflect on the ideals and ideas that define a good society, and to provide a neutral and balanced venue for discussing and acting on critical issues.
